Believe me, if I told you the length of time that I've held most of my holdings, even those that look much less attractive than REH, and in fact that no amount of makeup will make pretty, you will see that I sympathise with much of that. But I thought you were a man that was willing to ask the hard questions? I doubt I will be selling REH any time soon - but that shouldn't stop me from trying to confront brutal facts. Believe me, I suspect REH will stand up to them quite well, but in the name of cold rationality, I'm not going to pre-empt that.
As to the analogy with your wife, well I sympathise with that too. I've had mine for a long time (since I was in my early twenties) - my only one. I don't intend to ever have another.
But guess what? I only have one wife. When it comes to stocks, I'm afraid, there's no sacred cows.
