I can't let MarsC's post go without a response. I'm both a small REH shareholder and a larger WES one.
Bunnings is fine if you are have some knowledge of what you're trying to do, although offerings vary from store to store. Homework is required but don't expect any help from the REH website. It's the pits. It has virtually nothing to offer. How the Wilson family can countenance such a failure is beyond me. As a former maintenance man for a company with a plethora of apartments in South Yarra and the CBD, and now a retired DIYer, Bunnings and Reece are like chalk and cheese. Reece must be SO missing out on the DIY market. In my current project I was able to augment my Bunnings purchases with those from plumbingsales.com.au. What a great resource for hard to locate parts! The world has changed but Reece forgot to look. As for saving money at Reece, do me a favour! The tradie who lives next door to me laughs at how the Reece counter staff see how much they can get away with charging novices on a Saturday. I DON'T find it amusing.

I visit Bunnings most days of the week and see many tradies buying from there. Many of their staff have little product knowledge, it's true but I value their range of standard parts and their willingness to refund purchases without a quibble when I get it wrong. I don't need to ask for help. Obviously there's a place for both Bunnings and Reece and online stores like plumbingsales.com.au. I'm happy to have a larger share of my wealth in WES.
