I've been out of the country for many years and have been back in Australia for 8 months. I can honestly say that I am lucky to have watched 10 on 4 occasions. That was for the recent US Masters.
Since I have been away for so long i have noticed a real change in advertising. I just can't believe how long the block of ads goes for on the major channels. When i first came back i was watching a show on channel 7 and my mother said that there are 10 ads between the breaks. I thought that was BS but then i counted them. I couldn't believe it! There were 10 ads sometimes 11 during the breaks.
I have also noticed that there is a lot of cross promotion during sport, which is obviously very smart. This is why i believe 10 desperately needs a marquee sport. While there are generally more men than women watching sport, the wife who doesn't like sport usually watches under sufferance. Sport can then target those people as well promoting their programs. Unfortunately the NRL & AFL have been tied up, so that only leaves cricket. I really can't see channel 9 relinquishing the cricket. I suppose they have motorsports. But, I think when the soccer rights are up, they should go for it (not sure when they are). It would be an investment in a sport which is growing in popularity. And it is a national sport. Unfortunately, American Idol clashes with the NRL & AFL and starts at a bad time to challenge those sports.
Unfortunately, apart from Fox, I only watch channel 9 and 7. If channel 10 can somehow entice me over, they might keep with promoting other shows. Until they do, I really don't have a clue what shows they have and if they are any good.
I am posting here because i have been an interested observer over the past 2 years. I have watched the share price slide and am starting to get a little more interested. I am actually watching bits of American Idol (yes, i can't help myself) now and i can't believe the biggest loser is still on. Surely that concept has worn thin on people. It has been going for years!!!
With the Murdochs sniffing around I am inclined to have a punt on 10. They know the value of sport and good programing. At 30c, it's looking a little more attractive and I will definitely be doing some more research.
