Be careful when it comes to antioxidants. Redox state is important to many biological processes, and reactive oxygen species play important signalling roles. Recent research has turned a lot of accepted wisdom on its head: large doses of antioxidants can in fact exacerbate the problems that they were expected to help with. They increase the risk of cancer and (worse) cancer metastasis by promoting the survival of damaged cells that should be undergoing programmed cell death. They also reduce the gains from exercise, since muscle growth is in part triggered by the large burst of oxygen free radicals generated during heavy exertion.

Oh, and don't take medical advice from anybody who doesn't know how to properly capitalise "pH".
