You have to laugh at the naivety of some observers! Twiggy has only his own interest at heart and is using the "I'm a patriot" card to sell it.
The production levels at BHP, RIO, and FMG (who, by the way has put in the largest production increases out of the three) are regulated by the WA government: under the State Agreements those companies operate under, ANY increased production capacity has to be agreed to by the state government, which it has done.
The so-called "revelations" of IO marketing through Singapore illustrates how woefully uneducated our senators are. Both BHP and RIO were in lengthy negotiations with the ATO about setting up those offices and how the businesses will be taxed. Aust has a tax treaty with Singapore that allows such arrangements.
Contrary to popular belief, both BHP and RIO pay company taxes in excess of many other enterprises doing business in Australia. Read the Senate enquiry transcripts and you would educate yourself to this fact.
I do not work for any of the above mentioned companies, but I do recognise that Australia is fundamentally a primary production country. In the past it was wool dominated, now it is minerals. Killing that goose would have very dire consequences for this country. Short termism by the lynch mob is a sure pathway to poverty.
