I used to use amazon.co.jp to buy books. I can tell you for a fact that any order >AU$1000 had all the necessary taxes calculated and added to at it checkout. As others have said, it would have simply been a matter of updating their software - probably a 5 minute job. To tell you the truth, though, I am glad they blocked me, as I am now saving a bucket load of cash that is being better spent elsewhere.
