A survey by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association and Greenpeace International predicts that global investment in solar PV technology could more than double to E70 billion by 2015, provided that governments deliver the financial incentives and policies required to achieve grid parity. BusinessGreen says the report predicts the share of electricity coming from PV sources in Europe could reach 12 per cent by 2020, and employ 1.37 million people by 2015, and 3.55 million in 2030.
It predicts further investment increases in the industry to E129 billion a year by 2020, but its growth trajectory would then level off and reach E149 billion in 2050. It says industry assistance will continue to be required to help the technology reach grid parity, but says measures such as feed-in tariffs need to be constantly monitored to ensure the market does not become overheated - as has occurred in several European countries in the past 18 months, and in NSW."
