Greece prepares for the Olympics with Intellect
Melbourne, August 07, 2003 – Intellect (ASX: IHG) today announced that its
Greek partner, Skeye Hellas S.A., has secured a contract to deliver another
complete mobile payment solution. The deal with the General Bank of
Greece is worth over AUD3 million and will make the AERO Mobile
Transaction Device the bank’s standard point of sale device.
The devices will be deployed throughout the country to facilitate credit and
debit card payments for the millions of tourists who will attend the Games.
The AERO 520p devices will complement the existing 2000 Intellect units
already in the field in the Greek market and will help to create an
infrastructure that complies with the global EMV standard.
Intellect CEO, Mr Jan de Smet, said, “Our AERO 520p device became the
world’s first mobile terminal certified for EMV Level 1, 2 and Visa PED 2004.
This combination of certificates ensures that cardholders from around the
world can make secure electronic payments in Greece. Security has become
particularly important in the build up to a global event where merchants
will have customers from around the world, especially an event such as the
Olympics which is sponsored by a global payment scheme.”
Skeye Hellas’ General Manager and Owner, Mr Fotis B. Katzouros, is
enthusiastic about his company’s latest deal.
“During the next 12 months Greece will be in the global spotlight,” he said.
“By taking Intellect’s AERO 520p, the General Bank of Greece has ensured
that their merchants will have the right device to service the needs of local
    and international customers.”
The deal in Greece is the latest in a long line of AERO 520p sales, which is
setting the standards in mobile payment transaction devices. Equipped with
a dual GSM/GPRS modem, the device can run on traditional GSM networks
and, as they become available, new GPRS mobile networks with faster
connections at more attractive communication costs. The technology,
proven when the world’s first GPRS payment transaction from a mobile
terminal was made in Brazil last month, can be activated in the field with a
    simple secure remote download.
