Insurance, which I don't like in general, but a quality insurer with a good market reputation for paying out on claims and so can demand a small premium on premiums. Qld based which has been a worry in the past but I think Qld is better these days. Insurance premiums and industry in general was (is?) threatening to be disrupted by new entrants but SUN seems to have held its customers by effectively segmeting the market. Possibly coming into a low claim period with another el nino?
Bank is seen by some as sideline by some and needs to grow - bank sell off was rejected. They initially tried to grow the bank (a while back now) by lending to every dodgy property developer they could find but I think they have learnt their lesson. Bank like all smaller banks is seen as more risky by regulator because of size? and lack of fully developed risk management? Can SUN change regulators perception of risk? Bank is not subject to additional capital requirements recently affecting big 4. In effect the advantage the big 4 have is still significant but less - this should help SUN bank as well as BEN say. They still have to grow the bank or get out of banking all together. Doing this organically is slow so a merger should be on the cards.
The £10m pound pom did a really good job - it looks so simple in hindsight. Now a new guy running the group (an accountant so we can expect any excitement there), and a new guy running the bank. Nothing dramatic on the cards as yet maybe a nice steady consolidation and gradual improvement of the business and the sp.
