    The Permian is the king of coal but way behind the younger rocks.
    There are many factors in choosing a sensible place to drill for oil besides the age of the rocks (and its ability to generate oil).  One common feature seems to be that young rock have to upload_2016-10-5_10-17-2.png trap oil for fewer millions of years than older rocks.

    My reading of the potential of the bight would suggest it has Jur-Cretaceous targets.
