Recruited to Fitzroy from West Torrens in 1981, played 164 games and kicked 101 goals and captained the Lions from 1985 to 1987. A 200cm ruckman who was a great team player and won two best and fairests (1982 and 1983). Also represented South Australia. Coaxed out of retirement for a final year with Brisbane in 1992 and made 13 appearances. Has had extensive AFL experience as an assistant coach at Port Adelaide, Richmond and Melbourne.Matthew has just completed his 4th season at St.Kilda and has performed many different roles incuding midfield coach, forward coach, football manager duties, statistics, opposition assessment and tribunal co-ordinator.
