You are probably right. Who would know what the pr department came up with ?
However, some of the pumped hydro could be coal powered along the way during the transition. Especially for smaller ph where for some external reason, they are running low.
Existing pumped hydro had it's purpose back in the day when we didn't have enough load but we needed to keep the power station running in order to be available for the next load wave.
Until we have shiploads of storage ( decades ? ), we might have the odd period where we are caught short. Better to pay normal retail price to pump water than have to face the gougers when we are short. I'm sure the economics would be easy to work out.
It's looking like we are going to import lng into Victoria because we can't access our own. That tells me that anything is possible these days.
