Plans to export iron ore through Fremantle to be blocked

"The State Government has moved to block plans by Cazaly Resources to export iron ore out of Fremantle Port.

Cazaly Resources plans to export one million tonnes of iron ore through Fremantle from March next year.

Fremantle is a bulk container port and commodities are usually shipped out through Kwinana.

Cazaly chose the Fremantle option after it was knocked back from Kwinana due to capacity constraints.

Cazaly plans to ramp up its operation in 2013 and shift from Fremantle to Esperance once that port is expanded.

It then hopes to export 4.5 million tonnes.

Independent MP Adele Carles says the dust from the iron ore could pose a health risk for locals.

"This is Fremantle, it's not Port Hedland, any level of dust can become problematic for people," she said.

"The other issue is that if we say yes to Cazaly, who else is sitting in the queue, do we say yes to nickel to copper?"

The Transport Minister Troy Buswell says the Government's position is that bulk commodities be shipped through Kwinana, not Fremantle's inner harbour."

Ironic Mr Buswell- CAZ are more than happy to ship through Kwinana just give us some !!
