Although I agree with you that EV's definitely have the upper hand at the moment, and quite probably for the next 5 years at least, I do believe that there are going to be some fantastic developments in the very near future regarding Hydrogen on a number of fronts i.e. environmental, production techniques and related costs, as well as energy efficiency, storage, infrastructure and supply.
One reason why the car manufacturers stuck with petrol and diesel engines for so long (although they are both terribly energy inefficient) was the oil industry, which is essentially a cartel and also in cahoots with the German car industry.
I would also like to make the point that there could be a major recycling issue when it comes to the lithium-ion batteries that are currently being used in EV's.
