If your Gmail account is running slower than usual, you shouldn’t blame your computer since the issue originates at Google.
It looks like Google is experiencing a glitch that’s causing the webmail service to work slower than usual for some users. It’s not a serious matter, at least not like the outage several days ago, but users are finding it difficult to access conversations among multiple people.
The problem is with Gmail’s People Widget, something that only affects webmail users. The widget is enabled by default, but this can be altered from Gmail’s settings.
The process is quite simple. You need to click on the gear icon on the top right corner of the screen, go to Settings and click the “Hide the People Widget” lower on the page. Scroll all the way down, save the changes and you’re about done.
This means that you will no longer get details about the participants to a conversation to the right of the email area.
Since this is only an issue affecting Gmail’s speed, it wasn’t flagged on Google’s Apps Status dashboard where performance issues are listed.
