I should have made my post a bit clearer. Yes that was for some of the mines close to Eraring and Vales point powerstations. For those mines that produce the lesser quality coals a washery would be required to improve the quality of the coals in order to try and export them.

I can't wait for the contracts to expire in 2014 either so centennial coal can truly benefit from the higher coal prices. I have no doubt the will continue to supply local power stations, but the powerstations are kidding themselves if they think they are going to be getting the coal as cheap as they are now. Yes you are right also that centennial is under no obligation to continue to keep supplying local powerstations either.

I would never try to understand any logic of the NSW government you will just confuse yourself!
