A serious but largely un-talked about transformation is required of governments to accommodate the projected increase in EVs.
Currently in NSW residential energy consumption (mostly electricity, some gas) accounts for about 11% of the total energy mix. Transport energy consumption (mostly petrol and diesel) accounts for about 40%.
One recharge of a Tesla sized car battery consumes about 3-4 times more energy (electricity) than consumed daily by an average household.
Whilst diesel and petrol consumption would fall dramatically, electricity generation has to increase probably 200-300% to support transformation to an EV transport model.
That sounds ugly, untalked about and is bubbling away below government consciousness it seems.
