While on the face of it, floating the solar panels does seem a sensible idea to limit evaporation... the reality is that doing so would be unwise.

Unless you really have to get water and electricity/electrical components close together, it is usually best to avoid it. Especially if there are motors involved (which there are on the panel tracking system).

The point made which I have cut and pasted below pretty much says it all.

Better to invest in some other alternative to combat evaporation if it is such an issue going forward than to risk compromising the solar array.
