I don't think an assessment of potential pumped hydro energy schemes would be complete with out looking at the coast and plateau between Sydney and Wollongong.

At sea level there are mineshafts and pits that remain after one hundred and thirty years of coal mining.

On the plateau, nearly 1000 metres above are three dams and several small reservoirs.

It is ideally situated near the biggest  population base in Australia.

I believe the PHES could be either freshwater or saltwater depending which was most financially viable.
