I remember in one of my engineering classes the scandinavian prof saying he didnt understand Australian mentality towards petrol guzzling cars. The price of fuel has never been so high yet the sales of large & medium SUVs and 4wds dominate vehicle sales. Defies logic.
Suffice to say the uptake of EVs will be much slower in Aus than many other countries. We are privileged to live in places with low density populations and lots of free open space, this means two things, 1 the range of EVs needs to be higher and 2 the investment in critical supporting infrastructure such as charging stations needs to be much higher, being so sprawled out and all.
I wish the Aus government would wake up and incentivise adoption, Dubai struggled with this at one stage, the government committed to installing thousands of charging stations and guess what, the EVs followed.
