Seems very odd to me too but my take on it that initially it was a combination of the trading halt and resulting VS causing anxiety. This lead to the trading update sooner than they would of liked to release it.
Since the anxiety was already there from the VS when they didn't mention brine in the announcement this lead to the short term traders selling. This then caused some long term holders to panic sell. Panic selling can be very contagious, loss aversion psychology is very strong in us. That and rubbish being posted even from a long term holder that without this hole "GLN is only worth 50 bucks" nonsense like that doesn't help.
