TENNANT CREEK could be turned into a mining and manufacturing hub, capitalising on the onshore gas industry, as part of a regional deal being discussed between Federal, Territory and local governments and the town’s cultural authority.
Malcolm Turnbull said the different levels of government were on the verge of striking the regional deal after the Prime Minister’s historic visit to Tennant Creek.
“This would be modelled on the city deals that we have in the larger cities,” he said.
It’s understood discussions between Mr Turnbull, Tennant Creek Mayor Steve Edgington and Chief Minister Michael Gunner included plans to attract businesses to the town to take advantage of the onshore gas industry.
Incentives including reduced payroll tax and rapid asset depreciation for large businesses were discussed as part of the plan.
