Without divulging details, the committee chairman said, Songas presented their progressive report on the issue of gas and future plans to the committee yesterday and that the committee was satisfied with the Songas progress. Mr Shellukindo said Songas is ready to supply gas to Tanesco’s two turbines, 100MW and 60 MW, to be purchased soon.
“We are advising the government to speed up procurement of the two machines,” Mr Shellukindo said.
Songas Head of Legal and Public Affairs Mr Reuben Mwaikinda speaking to the press moments after presenting their report to the committee, confirmed that the 20MW turbine will be ready by Friday. Mr Mwaikinda said Songas’ capacity in terms of their contract with Tanesco is to produce 180MW of electricity only. Because one of their turbines is down, Songas can now produce 160MW.
Mr Mwaikinda declined to disclose future plans of electricity production that was discussed in the report presented to the energy and mineral committee.
Where would Songas source the extra gas from? From the Kiliwani North gas field or from the Songo Songo gas field?
