Getting approval, as has been stated will depend on ROG having satisfied present EPA legislation. Government will not grant approval just because they are for coal-seam gas.
What ROG has in favour is the gas is contained in sandstone that does not require fraccing, as this method of gas extraction is the main issue.
There is a lot at stake for the NSW Gov and Australia as a whole as the gas industry is huge and a cleaner energy source but what will be under constant debate is the harm to the environement caused by disturbing the water table etc by injecting chemicals into the ground.
The practice has been around for a long time just not in the public eye as it is now. Simply find a safer method of extracxtion and problem solved. IMO
