Gaming giant Tabcorp Holdings Ltd says wagering turnover from this year's Spring racing carnival in Victoria was down on last year, due to the outbreak of horse flu in August.

But the group said it was still its most successful carinival yet from an operational perspective.

Tabcorp said on Thursday that punters in New South Wales and Victoria bet a total of $1.36 billion over the 50 days of the carnival.
