Interesting article,, and the comments do tell quite a story dont they?

Defence is always an easy target for budget cuts for any government in financial stress, but to cut shipbuilding in these states would put a lot of Obama voters out of work.

I imagine Lousiana (and Alabama) would have been a been a supporter of Obama in the election. It would be hard for the Obama administration not to support them, especially at a time that the gulf oil spill is doing a lot of damage to the economy by itself.
