Thanks, PW, for the reminder that, despite the declining share price, development in the industry is still proceeding. But there is still some way to go for Syrah's prospective competitors. Yes, Mustang and Battery Minerals could well get into production in the medium term. I'm not so sure about Northern Graphite, which has been pushing their Bissett Creek prospect (northern Ontario) for about five years, without apparent financing success. Could be partly due to the fact that their grade is about 2% graphite, and their assumed price for 94.5% concentrate is US$1800 per tonne! Even with the reduction in forecasted Balama production for 2018 to around 140K tonnes, that will still leave Syrah with the world's largest graphite mine - in their first year of production.
With what are very probably the lowest costs in the industry, SYR is making things look just a mite difficult for any company still a couple of years (or more) away from serious production.
