There have been a number of spectacular company failures where the directors forgot it was spin and began to invest as if it was the truth.
Does any one remember a gold company that forward sold gold based on their own spin that they would find gold? By the way , from my memory, the forward sold gold amount was enormously different to their reserve position.
That company no longer exists.
