I read or heard somewhere that investing is not about where you buy or sell. It is the management between the entry and exist points that really counts. Personally trade management reflects the personality of the investor. No two investor have the same risk or profit profile. Each have their unique way of mitigation risk be it sell on strength sometimes known as swing trading or trail until it bends aka trend trading. There is no perfection of measure of effectiveness. It isn't a binary right or wrong. There is only one outcome and that is to meet one's objective when they decide to plunge in. Even losing if it meets the objective i.e. Stop loss, is the right objective of the trade. Folk are too concern in perfection, wanting a winner on every trade. It is the holy grail destined for a life long discovery. The right is when the objective is met regardless of profit or loss. The wrong is staying in longer than one had planned even winners and especially losers.
Hence trade management is so important, knowing where you enter and especially where you will exit in the future. However blue sky breakouts have their own unique stresses because there isn't a point of reference. Tools and strategies are also important as I have found. Nothing is worse than being lead astray since when a newbie starts, they don't know what they dont know. Everything is a discovery and impressive. If unlucky like myself it is years upon years of discovery of trial and error. Usually an expensive lesson as markets are efficient teachers.
In the end I resorted back to KISS. Simplicity works best. The number of times l see charts posted with 5 inidicators and multiple lines and I see the post analysis all over the place. Indicators are fighting each other to voice their messages. Worse is when they use the same family of indicators and not realizing it is confirmation bias of signals. Use opposing indicators to confirm? Oxymoron! I did all these!
