I see what you're saying, and you're right, it could change on a whim (read; war, terrorism, economic collapse, etc)....but IMO it is quite unlikely to. The need for supply of the stuff will be overwhelming in the near term, pending a massive change in fuelling of the next era of transport and electronic devices.
