Correspondence between Alinta Energy and South Australian Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis, obtained under Freedom of Information laws, reveal the government could have agreed to a transition plan to keep the coal-fired Northern power station in Port Augusta open until 2018. This was rejected and the plant permanently shut in May, with immediate price surges of almost 75 per cent.
