The EA's I have so far both running live and in development are all fully auto so they take the good with the bad. But I also have thoughts of "semi-auto" the way you describe (manually picking a setup and then launching a EA just for that setup. There's no one right way, in fact I think best way is to run as many different types as possible - diversification is the best option we have to cover all market conditions, imo.
