Hi Zest, imo EA's that you buy may or may not be good, but the more important factor is how you use them, i.e. what markets you apply them to, what timeframes, choice of other settings the EA's may have. These choices will have a big impact on how an EA performs and could make an average EA perform very well or a excellent EA perform poorly.
