3-4 weeks isn't long at all. It took me much longer than that to become consistently profitable.
A large part of it is psychological as well as risk control. Don't beat yourself up if you have losing days / weeks - it happens to everyone.
You did the right thing by having a break, I would definitely make it until the next day. You don't have to trade and sometimes it's best to just walk away and come back the following day with a fresh mind.
I'm not a scalper so this will differ for you, but I have a maximum drawdown set so if I continuously lose and hit my max drawdown, then I'll walk away from the markets for a few days (sometime's even until the next week). You, being a scalper, could change this to say 4hrs - 1 day. But if you're consistently losing, I'd definitely stop trading at least for half a day, then come back fresh.
