Interesting discussion on drawdowns. Personally I prefer low drawdown (< 10%) strategies but am happy to make lower but more consistent profits. I have seen strategies though that involve deep drawdowns (>20%) but which produce very high returns.
Imo it all comes down to risk/reward and the individual's risk appetite, which is a question each person must answer for themselves as to what they are comfortable with while working towards their objectives. There is no one right answer.
But I do agree for beginners it is better to start with low risk low reward strategies until they gain sufficient experience to appreciate what is involved with different strategies.
