I totally understand your view point with only being in the market for a shorter period. Your style I feel will fit in with trading future contracts one day. This is one style of trading I perform myself on tick charts.
For the last 5 years, I mainly like to let a trend develop and then let the market take it where it pleases over the long term. For me it’s hard to beat opening a position on the forex market then gathering a basket of 3 to 5 trades over a period of a couple of weeks. Here I attempt to rake in 1000+ pips. These baskets of course contain smaller lot size trades due to risk unlike trades on the Tick Chart which start from 1 Lot size.
These long time trades are almost no risk once in profit. I have opened a Short over night in the GBPJPY which I hope to form a basket. I am in 30 pips profit so my risk is almost zero risk with a stop loss set at break even. It’s either 2 pip profit or profit at break of trend, that’s little risk but possible high reward.
