Agreed Mal, although Fi only became available in beta to iPhone (and Android users other than Pixel) late last year. Even then it lacks functionality such as SMS and Visual Voicemail. Also, you have to include the base plan of $20 required in order to access the $10/GB international data.
The average US traveller, could get a US based number (and calls/texts )for a few dollars or even free, from any number of 2nd line apps that are available.
Google Fi also charges for charges made while abroad, $0.20c/min.
Where Fi kills it, is that it caps data after 6GB (even internationally). Also, it is far more convenient for someone already using the service.
Flexiroam hasn't historically performed well in the US, and I'd suggest that the absolute lion's share of their revenue is derived from iOS users. I suspect Google will expand their offering, but it will never play well with Apple.
