I am thinking CCE has in mind a mechanical PTO option, (NEMOS) and either a hydraulic or linear generator option, (Artemis or C-Gen) under consideration.
Perhaps in time all of them will be incorporated into Ceto 6M.
To me the NEMOS option seems the least complicated, so it might be the first to get a run?
Perhaps that could be done at Garden Island, using the foundations from the Ceto 5 trial?
A proof of concept trial would not require a fully connected Ceto 6M, perhaps not even a full size buoy?
For a mechanical system like NEMOS, all they would need is a multi tethered buoy (with 2 or 3 cables running through pulleys like in the video). The cables need not be connected to a PTO for the purposes of the trial.
Such a trial would be low cost and low risk, (in a similar way to the Ceto 3 proof of concept trial).
Those that were around then, will remember that the Ceto 3 trial consisted of a buoy, a foundation and hydraulic pipeline, the pipeline was open ended.
In the trial of Ceto 3, all they wanted to see was flow of water from the pipeline at the required pressure.
In the Ceto 6M trial, they would want to see the movement of the cables through the pulleys at a certain rate.
Of course, this is just another of my thought bubbles, so I might be completely off track.
