The video shows three cables linked to a single point on the underside of the Nemos float. By routing the cables through pulleys, all three cables come together at the base of the wind tower and then on to the power take off system higher up above the water line. The up and down motion of the float has all three cables in constant motion, this would translate to constant energy generation.
Some of the advantages of this configuration, (apart from the PTO being out of the water), would be:
- less pressure on the foundations as the device is not directly anchored to them.
- because of this, smaller suction foundations could be used.
What possible advantages could Ceto 6 have over the Nemos float:
- survivability from being below the surface.
- able to capture energy from chaotic and multidirectional waves because of it's round shape and surging and heaving motion.
Where wind towers are not an option, it might be possible to route the cables to a PTO located on the sea floor or attached to some other structure, (possibly inside another Ceto buoy ???).
