big e: there are ways around this - moving in isn't such a good idea, anyway - you could do it part-time - or take turns. Re: not looking nice: I have at times been offered help or even a shy contact attempt being made by nice men (always younger than me), when I have just run off to the shops from a house-renovation job (my house), hair still wet from a quick shower - just lip stick - working clothes - always refuse help - which is also rather dumb - but that's me!
I think women totally misunderstand men - they make themselves look perfect and formidable - and believe that's what men want; I watched a bit of that idiocy 'married at first sight' program last night and couldn't get over the artifice of those faces - got worse, when they got emotional . . . .
I have never been in the position where I had to halve everything, so can't even imagine what that's like and the scars it would leave.

Chuck - I have never been to Canberra - might be over there for a brief visit - very brief - soon, but it is held up as an example of good urban planning. It probably has some good entertainment, concerts, plays etc. All the images I have seen of Canberra are those of a perfectly planned and beautiful city - only drawback for me: it gets very cold - have an email friend who lives there (she is Viennese originally) and I get the low-down on the weather. I try to catch everything that's interesting here in Perth - can't afford it all, of course, but the people who normally whinge about 'lack of culture' are usually the ones who never go to see anything when it's here, or moan about something which happened years ago.
For example: our Fringe Festival, which has just finished, now has some amazing shows and it's always worthwhile to catch at least 2 of them, whereas in the beginning the shows were more street theatre, often confronting and a nuisance to the local businesses. I, too, saw a bad play, rather ballet this time (Swan Lake but with an Irish twist) but it was more to do that I was not in the right frame of mind to understand and enjoy it - some things need a bit of background work. Last year I saw a sensational 1-man play about the experience of a National Geographics Photographer who was dumped at the bend of a river in the Amazon to make contact with the last remaining 'Cat People' of the Amazon - and it was totally amazing - I even bought the originating book, which was a prize winning account of the actual event.
I do like the relaxed atmosphere of Perth and there are some beautiful city scapes; Kings Park, The grounds of the W.A. University, in fact many university campuses are beautiful, various views from the older suburbs, Fremantle - although I totally dislike the new developments as in industrial - Nissen Hut type housing for the plebs - costing well up to $800 000 - where are the architects with vision who can build a city up, say in terraces and use shape and colour in imaginative ways. enjoy your city!
