Very interesting to see the effect of a false positive....

It is being reported that a Yorktown woman who was quarantined in her home for nearly 2 months due to a false tuberculosis diagnosis has been awarded $75 thousand by Westchester County.
Maureen Ryan, 64, had been working with high risk obstetrics patients, and was ordered into quarantine in her home from early January through February of last year.
Ryan's lawyer Kevin Kitson, stated that 75 members of the woman's family were also told to undergo TB testing to see if they also had the virus. She "was under the impression she had given TB to her children, her grandchildren - she was freaking out," Kitson said. "It wasn't until quite a while that they said, 'Oh, no, we made a mistake.'"
Ryan had first gone for a TB test after battling respiratory problems for more than a year and not responding to traditional drug therapies.
Kitson believes that Ryan's TB test was contaminated with the positive result of another patient. The test was carried out by county laboratory staff who were working in conjunction with the Westchester Medical Center.
