F35 Cost reductions

Interesting that analysts are saying unless the costs of F35 are reduced it may not be sustainable and therefore unaffordable as a long term solution for US (and therefore other airforces)

I recall some discussion a while ago where QHL had offered Lockheed the option to take parts manufactured using Qure instead of autoclave -thus reducing cost and time-but this was refused on the basis that once a quality standard had been accepted using a specific methodology it could not be substituted without going through the same quality process again.
I wonder if DoD and Lockheed will change their mind now that US government and Trump are getting edgy about the long term cost??????
