"If corporations don't get rid of pollution, pollution will get rid of corporations". This is the thing that's driving the whole rare earths industry consolidation in China. Get rid of filthy operations and retain only the ones that are doing it in an environmentally sustainable manner. In JiangXi province, the # of corporations has decreased from 70 to 44.
All of the above will just increase the cost of rare earth supply as environmental regulations become stricter, which will eventually push up rare earth prices to make them economic.
