OUR to complete evaluation of proposals for more power to national grid6:46 am, Mon September 9, 2013
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is on Monday expected to complete its evaluation of the bids to provide additional generating capacity to the national grid. This comes a month after the OUR opened bids from Azurest-Cambridge, Energy World International, Optimal Energy and Energise Jamaica, which is in partnership with Armourview Holdings. It followed two missed deadlines for the proposals to be submitted.
Phillip Paulwell, Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, is awaiting a report on the outcome of the evaluation. He said as soon as he hears from the OUR, he will make a report to the country. Mr. Paulwell said this report could be made available as soon as Monday.
The OUR is scheduled to finalise negotiations for the project agreements by December 2. Construction of the plant is expected to begin by January 30, 2014 with the commissioning slated for January 2016.
