Because of the simplicity of its design the Model T could run on almost any hydrocarbon with minor modifications but it was primarily a petrol motor. During the war when fuel was rationed they were fitted with carbide canisters that produced acetylene, coal burners for methane and like the TE20 Ferguson had no trouble switching to kerosene when warmed up. Ethanol blends were another popular fuel during war rationing because they could be made from available feedstock.
