    Hi All,

Here, (above) introduces Rolls-Royce into the Electric Vehicle (EV) fold!

"British super-luxury marque has grand plans for its transition to a full-electric vehicle brand

Rolls-Royce says its take on the luxury electric vehicle (EV) will deliver more convenience than current petrol technology.

The uber-luxury marque’s global boss, Torsten Muller-Otvos, gave insight into Rolls-Royce’s EV aspirations during an Australian media conference last week, confirming full electrification will occur in the next 10 years.

“We will in the next decade at Rolls-Royce go full-electric,” he said. “We are not going hybrid, we are going full electric, step by step by step.

“That comes as the brand develops into a full electric brand over time. We will constantly refresh our product and make sure the design, concept-wise, fits to what our customers want us to do.

“I can’t tell you more because we’re thinking about upcoming future designs and so on.”

While V12s are synonymous with the Rolls moniker, Muller-Otvos said electric drivetrains will be an equally suitable fit for the brand.

One particular point of difference between petrol and electric will be the eradication of charging cords, in theory making EVs more convenient to ‘refuel’ than conventional petrol/diesel vehicles at traditional bowsers.

“We are not the ones with roaring engines coming around the corner, and for that reason electric fits perfect to Rolls-Royce. That is also the customer feedback: it’s silent, it’s powerful, it’s torquey,” he explained.

“We are selling what I would call refinement in perfection, in every single detail. Everything we touch, everything we do and every material we use is outstanding – the best money can buy. That will hold true as well for electric cars.

“Yes our customers love 12 cylinders but we also see low resistance for electric; as long as it is convincing, as long as charging time is quick and as long as charging is effortless -- not to plug any cables into wallboxes or whatever. As long as the range is sufficient in the cars.

“This will all happen and I’m quite optimistic of the future development of battery technology.”

Asked specifically about the prospect of induction charging, whereby an owner would simply park their car over a charging pad, Muller-Otvos nodded.

“It would be hands-free charging at the least. When we talk to our clients, this is something they would love to see.”

By the sametoken, Muller-Otvos said Rolls-Royce wouldn’t embrace self-driving technology until it had reached at least Level 4 autonomy simply because anything less wouldn’t appeal to customers.

“Owners only want that technology at a level that is really convenient and really brings you advantages,” he said.

Rolls-Royce first previewed its electric future with the unveiling of the Vision Next 100 concept in 2016 (pictured)."
