Hi again Kiwibird
Am not fully conversant with the geology, but from past experience working in limestone country, what you will find is there will be a central core of high grade ore ( with Mt Kare more than one ) the surrounding country being sedimentary will have been impregnated by the hot fluids at the time of the deposit formation. The closer you get to the core the higher the grades though these might be miniscule, but still a good indicator. The fault lines will create problems especially when mudstone of any type is mentioned. At the same time mining in these zones is possible, but 2 factors come into play. Grade vs Dilution & cost of ground control. The book Black Gold is about the discovery of Mt Kare by CRA the awesome amount of alluvial taken out, the problems with the locals & the conditions the exploration teams had to work in. Another book on the very early days of prospecting & mining in PNG is Ion Idiress, Gold Dust & Ashes. A great read.
