I agree with some of that; I buy my boards local and i'm sure most of their customers don't surf. But where I disagree is on wetsuits and US online competition. I've bought lots of wet suits from SS the because of price and the return policy and buying online from the US isn't cheaper these days (it was when we were at parity). Also you know surfstich operates as SWELL in the US and has a decent slice of the online pie over there.
As far as surfers not wearing the brands, I agree and disagree there has been a shift away from surf apparel but still plenty of people wear it where I surf (Torquay) and when I go on surf trips the majority of the crowed are dressed in the usual garb.
