Neither. He's behaving just like every other fast-talking conman does when the game is up: deny and prevaricate to the very last minute, and abdicate any blame for the predicament his company is in. This is exactly the same way all crooked entrepeneurs behave when they get found out - Bond, Skase, Rivkin, John Elliott, Adler, Williams etc. They're all exactly the same.
