How to get things in the Philippines. Lesson 1

... as far as bribery in the Philippines goes, and SXX's dreadful experience in getting permits, I have told the story of my mate who tried to buy land legally there. No way was he going to bribe anyone. Oh NO! he had high ideals. In the end exasperation.. yep.. out with the brown envelope under the table. Hey presto. Done deal.

THAT is the Philippines. And if that is the heat you don't like, well.. stay out of the kitchen.

So if SXX needs that to get Gold Cross, Batangas etc over the line, finally..well I will even send the envelope and add a few dollars too.

Now I may be surrendering my high moral ground by doing that... condoning bribery...but every man has his price, and I come cheap.

.. like the silly yanks trying to shove democracy down the throats of arabs who since history began have been perfectly (or close) content to be ruled by the biggest tyrant with the biggest sword or gun.

Forcing people to all join hands and go tripping through the meadow in a new age democracy, is a massive and dangerous culture shift. Now that may seem outrageous to a society brain-washed into believing in the paradise that democracy is, but democracy is about free choice isn't it? How conscionable is throwing out despots and leaving behind a bunch of mad tribesmen, freed up and armed to settle old scores. Peace and stability? yeah, right.

How does that superficial diatribe relate to Southern Cross Exploration... or SXXXXX as we call it. (the extra X's are kisses).

OK It says precisely this.... if you simply cannot get exploration permits nicely through the front door (or they take years which is the same thing) , well load up that brown envelope baby and get going!!!

Set aside your own morals, and accept (and yes, respect!) the REAL culture of another country, no matter how odious it seems. Pay up.

Call it "accidental loss of cash left behind on a park bench by mistake"... whatever.

BTW years ago Dunlop just HAD to pay up to get going in the east. So they did... and listed it as an item in their accounts. Graft. Good for them. Honesty and dishonesty, hand in hand... how sweet.
